Transitional Plans

Transitional Plans

At Physicians Plus, the point of everything we do is you. That's why we offer the option of continuing 2013 plans with transitional status. In 2013, CMS announced a transitional policy, known as "keep your plan." This policy allows plans effective in 2013 to not comply with certain market reforms in the Affordable Care Act, if the group choses, until October 1, 2016.

Physicians Plus offers renewals of 2013 plans with transitional status. Features of transitional plans include:

  • Only Available for Renewal. New plans must comply with the ACA. The federal government allows transitional renewals through 10/1/2016.
  • Available for Small Groups and Individual Coverage. The ACA impacts large groups in unique ways. CMS does not offer transitional status for large groups.
  • Different from Grandfathered Status. Grandfathered plans refer to plans that were effective in 2010 and followed grandfathered rules. Transitional status is different from grandfathered status. They offer different exemptions from the ACA. They also reference different years, 2010 (for grandfathered) and 2013 (for transitional).
  • Choice between Transitional Plans. Small groups on transitional plans may change their cost sharing and retain their transitional status. However, groups may not change from a HMO plan to a PPO or POS plan and retain their transitional status.

We work with our partners in an ever-changing regulatory environment. We are committed to working with you. Please contact your service representative at (800) 545-5015 if you have questions regarding the renewal of a transitional plan.
