Physicians Plus Encourages Kids to “GO Get Out!”

Local health plan teams up with pros Driver and Bennett to promote fitness at Henry Vilas Zoo

What do you get when you combine hundreds of children working out, furry animals and Green Bay’s Donald and Driver Edgar Bennett? You get the “Green & Gold Training Camp,” sponsored by Physicians Plus Insurance Corporation, on Saturday, July 18 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Henry Vilas Zoo.

Coaches Driver and Bennett will put kids through a “mini training camp,” and ten lucky, randomly chosen participants will win a football autographed by both players. “We’re thrilled to host an event at the zoo for the fifth year running” said Scott Shoemaker, Manager of Marketing for Physicians Plus. “Knowing that kids and families are having fun while being outside and active makes this event worthwhile. It’s very important to teach kids at an early age that staying active is a key to leading a healthy life, and who better to deliver that message than two state legends with the credibility of Donald Driver and Edgar Bennett.”

Green & Gold Training Camp is open to children ages 5-12 (the YMCA of Dane County will have fun activities for children 2-12 throughout the morning). It’s the third of four seasonal GO Get Out! events hosted by Physicians Plus this year. The GO campaign is designed to encourage kids and families to lead healthy, active, outdoor lifestyles throughout the year. As a locally owned and involved health plan, employer and community partner, Physicians Plus made a decision in 2005 to provide kids and families with incentives for getting active and combating climbing rates of childhood overweight and obesity in south central Wisconsin. The GO Get Out! Campaign was born.

“Green & Gold Training Camp will be not only a chance for kids to meet and work out with the players, but also to enjoy some valuable time outside at a great, free, family venue like Henry Vilas Zoo,” Shoemaker said. Registration will be available on-site, but participants can save time standing in line by visiting HealthyChoicesBigRewards.com and printing and completing the registration form in advance.
